Ladurée Macarons

I haven't really had any cravings during my pregnancy, but if there's one thing that I can't stop thinking about lately, it's the lovely macarons (not to be confused with macaroons) from Ladurée. I think this is partly due to the empty Ladurée box sitting in my living room that I can't bear to part with. Everytime I see it I am transported back to memories of those heavenly, perfumed, morsels. I'm not usually one to get overly ecstatic about my food. I'm not a huge chocolate addict (don't get me wrong, I love chocolate, but I'm not one of those girls that "needs chocolate" or craves it particularly).

Anyway, there's just something about Ladurée's macarons that just sets them apart. But there doesn't seem a way to get them that doesn't involve a 9 hour flight (which, I suppose, is part of their charm). Anyway, I dearly wish that they would at least open one shop somewhere on this continent. Currently they have shops in Monaco, London, Tokyo and Switzerland. Would it kill them to open a shop in Seattle, San Francisco or Vancouver? Or even New York?

Hmm. Well, until then, I guess I'll just have to cherish the memories. And maybe try bribing friends to bring them back from overseas trips. And perhaps even learn to make a decent macaron myself!

yum! I love macrons! My husband I and shared some a few weeks ago at a local bakery/lunch spot. I had chocolate and he had chocolate raspberry. I think it was maybe the best thing I have ever had :-)

As you mention in your post, it is the miraculous flavors of Laduree that set them apart--our favorite combinations were, as I remember: rose--really--rose-flavored, delicately rose-colored, violette--a flavored liqueur that I have only seen in French speciality shops in France, and the vanille with pistache creme filling! They are so beautiful in their lovely boxes or displayed in the shop. And of course, the shops also have an entire rainbow of the lovely little confections. Thanks for the memories!

Those are the best macarons...the flavors and presentation really make them sensational. Not a bad thing to crave at all... ;o) Happy Day!

Yes, the presentation has a lot to do with it. Ah, Paris! I'm afraid it will be a while before I get a chance to go back, but I'll keep dreaming in the meantime!

Ooooh, I hate cravings like that! I always crave Giordano's deep dish pizza, which you can only find in Chicago. It seems a little silly to take a trip to the windy city just to get pizza, you know? That and the most wonderful gelato I ever had was in Vienna, Austria. Nope, not going there either. Maybe you can talk to Monica- she's in Switzerland! Bribe her... I would!!!

Darn, I should have! I have to remember this next time I know anyone is going to be in Europe.
